Generative AI Art Installation

aMiRRoR is an interactive art installation that reimagines the act of looking at oneself through the lens of real-time artificial intelligence. Instead of offering a traditional reflection, the installation captures a viewer’s image and transforms it into a surreal or expressive reinterpretation, displayed on an LCD screen in place of a mirror. By distorting, abstracting, and recontextualizing the participant’s likeness, aMiRRoR invites reflection on identity, perception, and the influence of technology on self-image.

The project was developed over eight weeks from concept to installation as a solo effort. I designed and built all hardware, software, and physical components. A high-definition camera feeds live video into a Mini PC running custom Processing software. Motion detection triggers image capture, which is then transformed using randomized prompts and model parameters via API calls to six different fine-tuned LoRA models hosted on Replicate. Each interaction produces a unique result, reinforcing the idea of identity as fluid and unstable.

The physical installation was constructed using reclaimed materials, including a repurposed television, a salvaged nightstand, and a custom-built mirror frame. By combining generative AI, real-time interaction, and hand-built physical form, aMiRRoR functions as both a technical system and a sculptural object, designed for public interaction and contemplation.
