Working with photographs captured by story producer Robert La Force in New York City, Generative AI is used to create a series of video shorts that explore the theme of "dropped" in New York City as companion pieces for a series of his short stories.
She skipped toward her favorite spot: a little pond ringed by slabs of slate, its water hiding a school of bright ornamental carp. The fish slipped beneath lily pads like flashes of orange gold.
It reminded her of her dad and a trip they took to a pond. He once promised a goldfish. It never happened.
Her fingers traced the surface of the water when Mr. Turtle emerged to say hello.
"Why is Daddy leaving?" she whispered.
His blue eyes blinked, then he turned his head. Not even a ribbit in reply.
Belinda sighed. Maybe the garden gnome would know.
She took off, darting along the winding paths, passing clusters of herbs labeled with names she sounded out under her breath: skullcap, feverfew, marshmallow, calendula.
She found the gnome at last, hiding behind purple flowers, tucked in a patch of deep green. Someone had painted him bubblegum pink.
She stood before him, solemn.
"My dad is moving out. Was it something I did?"
